I have had this printer now for about 18 months. I cannot fault it. I use the scanner for paperless software programmes, the fax option is never used. After all, who uses a fax these days? Consumables from a reputable rem provider such as cartridge save are cheap. The full set costs about £76 before discount codes. It does duplex and the colour rendition for letters is very good. I have had Brother after Brother after Brother and none have let me down. I run them into the ground so only have to change every 5 to 7 years. Brother have a deal with Nuance in so much as if you buy ther MFC, paperport is bundled with it.

Without driver - printer is weird!!! (2nd page is flip from top to bottom) With driver - printer does print better on both side - but lots of hassles to get it to work to get the booklet right - as I create lots of booklet using Adobe Indesign - print out came out wrong size, wrong orientation most of the times even the preview shows correctly but print out is weird :(

Reasonable print quality although the colours are a little muted. Reasonable scan quality although it doesn't quite scan close enough to the edge of A4 sheets and misses characters from A4 documents that are printed close to the edge. Scanning JPEG images to a computer over a network is flawed as you have to initially walk back to the recipient computer and choose the ControlCentre4 option, then walk back to the printer to continue scanning. Also, on the recipient computer, it loads the scanned JPEG images in Paint with no preferences/options to use different software or to just leave the images on your computer without opening them. Scanning of PDF's is straightforward though.
