HiKOKI SB8V2WAZ

Overall a good sander, the variable speed is very handy, and it is stronger than some of its competitors. The only con I found is that the motor is so heavy that it naturally leans to one side. While using it, you have to account for the unbalanced weight while gripping it, instead of letting the weight of the sander do the work

This belt sander was returned the same day it was purchased. The sanding belt would not track at all. I would set the tracking to the center of the belt path, even let it run for a minute to make sure the tracking was centered. I started sanding and after 30 seconds of sanding the sanding belt was half off the machine. I then had to stop and recenter the tracking of the belt. I tried three different sanding belts from three different manufacturers, all did the same thing ( yes the belts were installed properly, in the correct direction). After 30 minutes of messing with this, I gave up. This is either a defective unit or a very poor design. This was, without question, the worst belt sander I've ever encountered.

The cover over the drive belt broke off the first day I used the sander and after about 4 weeks of use the sanding belt wouldn't stay on.

I have been using the belt sander with 40 grit sandpaper to sand down a bunch of rough sawn Applewood boards about 1 inch thick and it is doing a pretty good job. It feels well balanced in my hands and not to heavy to use for long periods of time. The belts are easy to change. Not sure why the metal plate is wider than the belt but seems to work OK
