Is it expensive? Yes. But if you're like most people, you hate sanding. We'd all rather be spending more time elsewhere. Not only does the rotex mode positively eat up stock for quick removal/surfacing, but you can switch back to random orbital mode with a literal flip of a switch. I was using a smaller 5" DeWalt sander before, and compared to that, this cuts down my sanding time by about 30%

I followed Festool US Support people's instructions (based on my call to them about this problem), turned the sander unsidedown, held the lock button in with my left hand according to instructions, and with my dominant right hand I pressed the hard sanding pad down with all of my weight (190 pounds) and tried to turn the hard pad clockwise to install the hard sanding pad on the sander. It would not install despite repeated attempts. Since this is the second hard pad that I have tried that will not install, my I think that maybe this is a design flaw in the sander. If you need to use the hard pad in your sanding, you may wish to be aware of this matter.

This is an awesome PRO tool. I'm a serious woodworker and love the stability, dust management and how fast I can finish the task. Definitively Granat abrasive makes also the difference.

I bought this to use on big tables where the 5" orbital was just not fast enough. Works well in both modes but does get hot after long use.
