Like: It works. And works very well. Yes, it takes time, but so would an equivalent 8x10. The scratch and dirt removal does an amazing job but not a 100% job. On very dirty or scratched slides, it may only be around 50% - but I can understand that considering you are running out of areas to fill in with. The areas it leaves alone is usually (not always) around edges or detailed areas - also understandable. Dislike: Because if the emulsion, you cannot reliably use the scratch and dirt removal on Kodachrome. There are other methods to work with but they are not nearly as efficient. Dislike: Silverfast: Very cool software but not intuitive. As has been reported, it has a very steep learning curve. I would recommend playing around with it to learn the intricacies before committing to scanning in a bunch of slides that you may have to rescan.

The dust remover is great for old, dirty slides - it really works, if a bit slow. Complicated software, very capable.

Save your money

Not impressed with this scanner at all. An absolute pain to work with. Silverfast Software consistently crashes. When it does work its not intuitive at all and neg scans are inferior quality compared to original and scans of properly exposed slides, bright and sharp, come out dark and soft. Directions suck and a google search for help brings up countless other people with same issues.

Works very well

This scanner works very well! After some experimentation and practice, I am getting excellent results from Kodachrome slides. My results from 35mm negatives arent quite as good, showing less detail and more grain, but they are still better than what Ive gotten from film-capable flatbed scanners. I dont have the same complaints as others about the Silverfast software. I find it reasonably intuitive and it is certainly capable. If you understand color profiles and the concept of workflows, it works fine. IR dust and scratch removal is very impressive. Scanning is not a fast process, it takes several minutes per image and you can expect to still do some minor retouching with another program such as Photoshop or Affinity Photo.

Really good scanner, really hard to use software

Others have said the same thing: Silverfast is not easy to use. Ive had it crash after only a few scans (and that was after updating to their newest version). When it works, it works well, especially the IR dust/scratch removal. For all other processing, though, I think Ill stick to LightRoom and Photoshop. The PlusTek yields excellent images, but using it with Silverfast requires patience. Scans do not go quickly. I just wish there was an automated advance mechanism. Even automating 4 slides or negatives at a time would be nice. I will simply be judicious in which images I scan to offset the time required to do so.
