Der Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 in der Größe 245/40R18 ist ein Ultra-High-Performance-Winterreifen für sportliche Pkw. Nutzer und Tests berichten von sehr gutem Grip auf kalten, nassen und trockenen Straßen, mit kurzen Bremswegen und einem präzisen, vertrauenerweckenden Lenkverhalten. Die Laufleistung wird häufig gelobt, sodass der Reifen bei normaler Nutzung mehrere Saisons hält. Für einen sportlichen Winterreifen sind die Schneeeigenschaften stark, auch wenn reine Schneespezialisten in tiefem Schnee oder an steilen Anstiegen teilweise noch besser sind. Weniger positiv sind der höhere Rollwiderstand, der Verbrauch oder Reichweite leicht beeinträchtigen kann, sowie ein eher straffes Komfortniveau mit spürbaren Abrollgeräuschen auf rauem Belag. The tyres were used to drive from London to Lech in Austria in February when there was a lot of snow on the roads in the Alps. The Pilot Alpin 5 were on the front wheels of my car and 265/30 - 20 Pilot Alpin PA4 were on the rear axle. I would have preferred to have Pilot Alpin 5 on the rear axle but they are not available in this size.
