I bought one of these a little while ago and initially had some trouble with it as I am not very technical but wanted to have a go at adding it to my computer by myself. I thought I had it all right but as it turns out after speaking with Startech technical team I was at fault and doing something wrong. Someone in the technical support squad helped me to install the card by talking me through it over the phone and I have to say I have had no problems with the product since.What a great company. I must say I have never had anyone go the extra mile to offer this much support before.Thank you

I had no troubles getting this card to work with linux in an older motherboard. No extra drivers required — just plug it in and it works.

Image recovery on SONY camcorders in 8mm, HI8 and DV format, then film editing and burning on DVD, BLU-RAY.

Works very well as described. I bought it to connect an old EDIROL FA-66 which was only equipped with FireWire connectivity and the EDIROL was well recognised by my computer, everything works.

This FireWire card worked beautifully to help me transfer some old Hi-8 camcorder tapes onto the computer. But it required an older computer. Modern computers use PCI3, but this is a PCI card. Fortunately I had an old Windows XP computer lying around collecting dust that I was able to plug this into and fire it up and have it work perfectly right away.
