D-Link Des-1005p Switch

This is an unmanaged switch, meaning it required no setup. We are using it in our office that runs Gigabit networks. The cubicles was out of network port and they need POE to power up the desk phone (Polycom IP 560 & 550), which are powered up by the 4-green colored port (1-4), and I use the rest of the ports to the office PC. Plug and Play and no surprise. The phone powered up, connection to the PC works right away. Has been using it for 8 months and on 24x7 and never go down. This is meant for desktop and not rack-mount, and remember, only 4 of the port is POE-capable, not 8.

Bought primarily to power one wireless access point (DAP-2690) and still have some other switch connections available should need arise or we add more PoE access points. It worked fine for this purpose. Now, I actually don't use it for that anymore as we have added networked devices and now have managed 24 port switches in various parts of the house for main networking. I much prefer the managed route although there is a steep learning curve for keeping things running smoothly. Otherwise I was having to walk around the house periodically and power cycle all the switches in the whole system to fix kinks, which is about all you can do with "dumb" or unmanaged switches when trouble creeps up. At this point I don't use the PoE on this one and it just is used as a gigabit desktop switch for a guest room but it is nice to have around should I sometime need some PoE again.

I got this switch because I plan on setting up some home surveillance and needed the PoE features this offers. The gigabit ports are also a plus, gives my home network more flexibility that I need down the road. The switch is pretty solid. Doesn't feel cheap at all and it has what you'd expect from a switch with the LEDs giving you the information you'd expect. Amber lights to the corresponding port number tells you that the adapter is running in 10/100 mode. If it's a green LED, then it's on 1000 (gigabit). No setup required. Just power it on and plug in your ethernet cables and you're done.

works as should...wish there were more options available, but no real complaints here. I bought two actually, and would buy again in the future

Do not be fooled! This is not a 5-port POE switch. Its a 5-port 10/100 switch with ONE POE. To top it off, scAmazon will not return the item. They claim that it is a hazardous material. I may not need a hazmat suit, maybe just some galoshes to help me get through scAmazon's BS.
