Owned an Ergo for several years which needed replacement. The Ergo S has some small design improvements: - Bottom plate and how the rubber mat is cut/adhered - Silent buttons - Ball did not need any break in - smooth from the get-go - Comes with Logi Bolt 4/5 because I don't understand why Logitech only allows pairing to 2 devices where other MX mouses can pair with 3 devices. The only issue I do have is with the device switch button which may be a specific product issue.

I have used the non "S" variant for years now and found it to be excellent except for the buttons that start to wear out in a couple of years (I'm now on my 3rd ball mouse, and I replaced the buttons myself on one of them). I'm pretty heavy user though as its used for work. The new S variant has quite different main buttons - they don't make a click as such (although you can feel a change as you press the button)! This took a little while to get used to but in the end I now quite like it. I'm also hopefully that they may fix or at least improve the longevity of the buttons but time will tell! I used to suffer a bit from RSI as I'm constantly using my mouse but this style mouse has really helped and its no longer a big issue.

Extremely well made and comfortable trackball mouse. I used a 4 button Kensington trackball for many years, but found the size uncomfortable for long editing sessions. This is a great travel mouse for my laptop and if you are used to trackballs you will easily adjust in a couple of hours. I switch back and forth between this and a Nulea trackball with ease. I like the space saving aspects, the adjustable angle and the quietness of the buttons. Your wrists will thank you over the long haul as well. Coming from a mouse, it will take a day or two of adjustment. I still game with my Corsair mouse though :)

For some reason logitech continues to use an absolutely insanely low polling rate of 125khz for all their wireless mice. This means on panels >60hz you get mouse trails all over the screen irrespective of DPI etc. This product was re-issued last year and it is basically useless with modern setups due to this.
