Der AKG K72 ist ein günstiger, bequemer Studio-Kopfhörer mit langem Kabel und geringem Gewicht. Die Klangqualität ist für diese Preisklasse angemessen, aber die Mitten wirken dumpf und weniger klar, was besonders bei Gesang und Instrumenten auffällt. Die Geräuschisolierung ist mäßig, da die Ohrpolster nicht immer gut abschließen, vor allem bei Brillenträgern. Das feste Kabel ist im Studio praktisch, aber weniger für den mobilen Einsatz geeignet. Die Verarbeitung besteht größtenteils aus Kunststoff, wodurch der Kopfhörer weniger robust wirkt. Für günstiges, komfortables Tracking geeignet, aber nicht für kritisches Mischen.

They may not have been expensive, but what good is it if they don't have bass? I might not know much about this; I'm an amateur, making music as a hobby in Ableton Live, and I've only recently been using these headphones. In the final mix, I boost the bass because there's not enough of it with the reference K72 headphones, and what's the result? The music mixed this way sounds terrible on another audio source because there's way too much bass, dominating the entire project. It's a trap... This is a serious problem for me; I'm not happy with these headphones. They're basically useless.

Without being exceptional, these headphones do the job, reproducing bass very well even at low amplification. Although it's not dramatic, I was a little disappointed with the highs, which were crushed by midrange that was a little too powerful.
