Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition bietet eine einzigartige Open-World-Erfahrung in Hong Kong mit Fokus auf Martial-Arts-Kämpfe statt Schießereien. Die Kampfmechanik wird weithin als flüssig und befriedigend gelobt, vergleichbar mit Batman Arkham-Spielen. Die Geschichte mit Wei Shen als Undercover-Agent ist fesselnd und gut getaktet, mit einer Spielzeit von etwa 10 Stunden für die Haupthandlung. Allerdings zeigt die Definitive Edition erhebliche technische Probleme: konstante Framedrops, begrenzte grafische Verbesserungen im Vergleich zur PC-Version von vor zwei Jahren und einen hohen Preis von $60. Die Fahrmechanik fühlt sich steif an und die Kamerasteuerung kann frustrierend sein. Alle DLCs sind enthalten, fügen jedoch wenig zur Haupterfahrung hinzu. Für neue Spieler ist dies ein fantastisches Spiel, wenn der Preis fällt, aber für diejenigen, die es bereits gespielt haben oder einen Gaming-PC besitzen, ist dieser Remaster schwer zu rechtfertigen.

Worth every penny. As a middle-aged gamer who thinks GTA5 is a high point of 21st century popular culture, Sleeping Dogs is a close second to Rockstars masterpiece. Strong characterisation, a solid script, excellent action sequences and a great map of Hong Kong make for a superb experience. Highly recommended.

Deeply flawed given the time SE had to iron out glitches and old-school problems. The driving mechanics are awful, with the camera constantly swinging into the wrong position, and very little finesse available. The game crashes far too often. The narrative is odd, and it is difficult to know whether to empathise with some of the characters and Wei or just accept them as Nico like crims even when they are 'cops'. It is GTA-lite with none of the endearing apsects. I got sick to death of re-loading back at my safe house and then having to get all the way across the map again to do a task. You would have thought being able to jump from safe house to save house would be an option and it isn't (unless I am missing something). The fighting is irritiating and although I manage most fights in the end, the timing of certain button combos seems overly sensitive and despite my dojo training I ended up resorting to mashing the buttons or looking for a gun! All in all an irritating experience.
