New Super Mario Bros. 2 liefert solide Plattformspiel-Grundlagen mit exzellentem Level-Design und präzisen Steuerungen, die es angenehm zu spielen machen. Der neue Coin Rush-Modus erweist sich als überraschend süchtig machend und erweitert den Wiederspielwert erheblich. Das Spiel geht jedoch zu sicher vor mit einer zu vertrauten Formel, recycelten Visuals und Musik aus früheren Einträgen und einem Münzsammel-Fokus, der keine bedeutungsvolle Tiefe hinzufügt. Das Millionen-Münzen-Ziel fühlt sich eher nach Grind als nach Belohnung an. Multiplayer funktioniert, hat aber Kameraprobleme, die Störungen verursachen. Am besten für Mario-Fans, die mehr klassisches Gameplay suchen, aber diejenigen, die Innovation wünschen, könnten vom Mangel an frischen Ideen jenseits des Münzthemas enttäuscht sein.

Mario 2 is far better than the original Mario DS. The original was fun with the traditional platform style of play that we have all come to know and enjoy throughout the Mario franchise, but Mario 2 has a lot more action and color. Some of the annoying things from the original were removed, like you can now save again and again after beating a tower or castle. The annoying chomping sounds from the piranha plants is also gone. In this game, you focus more on getting coins while also collecting the three big gold coins, finding secret levels, and beating Bowser. I've gotten a lot of extra lives just from all the coins I collected.
