OK

didn't like the graphics much, and disappointed in the emphasis on battle early. In most real places, peace exists until there is a shortage of certain resources.

Buggy

This game is buggy af. At first I thought maybe I was missing a patch, but Steam takes care of those updates... or so tech support tells me. I checked teh interwebz and other players report some of the same problems. I probably wouldn't buy another these considering how unstable it is.

Great addition to Civilization.

I love the Civilization series of games and “Beyond Earth” is no exception.

Mostly Good, Except The AI

This is another great title in Sid Meier's Civilization series. The graphics and animation are beautiful. The variety of planets and landscape is great. This game introduces a new, non-linear technology web, and it also introduces new concepts in diplomacy, affinity, and cultural synergies. The one glaring flaw I find is with the AI players. The good: each seems to have its own unique personality and affinities characteristics. The bad: the AI players often do not act in a rational or logical manner. As with other iterations of Civilization, the AI players can go from being your friend to being your enemy and declaring war in one turn, and with no warning. I've played through it several times, and the AI is not enough to make this a bad game, but it could use some improvement, in my opinion.

Sub-light Speed

Except for the Steam this is a passable new version of the Civ series. It is slow. It is a bit too complex. I prefer the older "Alpha Centauri", which is more playable. This version suffers from too much attention to graphics, and not enough attention to gameplay. I don't find myself impelled to take just one more turn. If it were a book, it would be interesting, but not a page-turner.
