After 14 months of occasional use, the chainsaw stopped dead. Warranty had expired at 12 months. After finding that no local repair centre would touch it, I dismantled the chainsaw to find out why it stopped and whether it could be repaired economically. The flywheel could be turned independently of the clutch and the piston crank, meaning that the piston crank wasn't driving the flywheel and incidentally that the ignition timing was completely out. On further investigation (see picture) the crankshaft had split completely. It looks like a weak point at the narrow cross-section seen in the photo. No warranty, no repair and no chainsaw. Cost of repair would be comparable to the cost of a replacement chainsaw. Poor show!

Used it twice for a few hours and the pull cord wouldn't return and also the safety lock failed. McCulloch told me to take it to a local dealer who would repair under warranty regardless of whose fault it may be (due to potential litigation) as it was a safety device. The dealer refused to repair as the case had melted. Spoke to McCulloch and they refuted every thing they said earlier, and said its not under warranty. The dealer said it was beyond economical repair. So I guess I'll use it without the safety lock or throw it away. Don't buy one.

Great saw. Any saw is good with a good chain but this is easy start, easy on fuel, easy on the arms and is 90%husqvarna.
