This is not a video lens. It is a very wide very sharp lens and has great ability for stills. It hunts in video and is not meant to be a video lens. It is a great still photo lens and does a fantastic job shooting stills. In video mode, it has a loud auto focus so if you are going to use it in video, you will have to use manual focus. In manual focus, it does a great job in video. Often times shooting video is easier using auto focus so this lens in auto is not a good choice. In manual focus it is actually pretty good. Still photos have the fantastic Zeiss quality and you cannot find a better wide angle lens in my opinion. Perfect for indoors and close up shots requiring lots of coverage. Overall it is a near great lens.

Nach 50 Jahren ernsthafter Beschäftigung mit der Fotografie erlaube ich mir, dieses Objektiv bezüglich seiner Abbildungsqualitäten als hervorragend zu bezeichnen. Kaum Verzeichnung, natürliche Farben und eine tolle Schärfe, die wohl kaum besser sein kann. Wer diese Auffassung anhand der Erfahrungen mit seinem Objektiv nicht teilen kann,hat sicher ein `'Montagsexemplar`'erwischt. Leider passiert das auch bei Linsen, die den Zeiss-Aufkleber haben. Anders kann ich mir die eine oder andere schlechtere Bewertung nicht erklären. Der Preis für das Objektiv ist hoch, aber der Leistung angemessen. Ich besitze Objektive mit mehrfachem Preis-Niveau, die in der Praxis keine bessere Qualität liefern. Für den Amateur stellt sich natürlich überhaupt die Frage, ob er so gute und damit sehr teuere Objektive überhaupt benötigt. Wer diese Frage für sich mit ja beantworten kann und bereit ist, den hohen Preis zu zahlen, wird aber von der Leistung des Objektivs bestimmt nicht enttäuscht werden.

PROS: Zeiss Quality Distortion control is great and can easily be corrected in post. Cons: Autofocus is very noisy. Like almost comically so, but for stills who cares. Expensive.

I bought this for my Sony FS5 digital cinema camera. It is sharper and has better local contrast than the Sony 10-18mm f4 zoom and weighs just a bit more. Unfortunately the autofocus hunts on the Zeiss while the Sony lens is quick and decisive. Not an issue in many situations, but when the camera is on a gimbal it makes a difference. I decided to keep it any way because the image is slightly better. The lens had 02 firmware, which is supposed to make it better. Not really good enough AF, even with the firmware. Strangely mine came from BH without the plastic bags inside the box. It makes me believe I got someone else's return, even though I ordered a new lens.

Excellent lens on a6000 or a7s (with internal baffle removed). I will take it to scandanavia and shoot the norther lights with it. The dark edge around the rim will not be so bad since I will have an effective 15-18mm lens on a7 or full 12mm on a6000.
