I can believe I had a bad copy. But my lens was simply unusable for any kind of work where image quality is important.

It\'a unusable lens when sources of light hit the frontal element, no one told it, that\'s the issue. After several candid and reportage shots lost for this, sold it. Nice for shooting for fun and repeat if the result is not good. Unusable for serious and paid works, full stop. Everything is fine until you lose first kiss in wedding because a light hit the frontal element.

An amazing lens. Not perfect but very close to perfection. I prefer it over Fuji 90mm lens.

Viltrox has only recently entered the lens market and, a year later, all I can say is that they did a really great job, offering a performance that can rival both the Sony FE 85mm 1.8 (where it can outperform it in terms of autofocus in low-light conditions) and other, even more expensive lenses, such as the Samyang 85mm 1.4 (the image sharpness is almost equal). Of course, it’s not the perfect lens (none are), since it could do a bit better with the flares and, while the construction is fantastic (it’s built like a tank), the hood is not that great, but, overall, considering the smooth, quiet autofocus (the SMT implementation is again, really well done) and the creamy bokeh, this is a great device to take into consideration if you’re looking for an affordable and reliable lens for portraits. Let’s also not forget that constantly receives updates, so it’s fair to assume that the lens is going to see even more improvements in the future.

Little to fault here, TBH. Focusing on newer bodies is quick and accurate, even in AF-C mode. Centre sharpness is excellent at 1.8, and improves stopped down (as per most lenses). AF speed is ever-so-slightly slower than the Fuji 90/2, but the price more than makes up for this. I wish Viltrox would make their AF adapters this good.
