Samyang Velvet Nikon Z 85 Mm Teleobjektiv

I have had this lens for about a year now. I did a lot of research before buying it. I was very happy with it until it developed really serious autofocus malfunctioning. It would jitter and make audible almost popping sounds and never achieve focus. this happened in various scenerios...seemed to be more often in low light, but also happened outside. I reached out so Samyang and they sent me a new one...which worked fine for about three weeks and then the SAME issues developed. I found that switching focus modes seemed to help. However, it recently really messed me up while recording video--in a well lit interview setup, the lens (on a6500) on several interviews couldnt find focus, it got way out of focus and seemed to jitter in and out...and then literally just gave up and remained blurry throughout the interview!

I heard reviews that the Auto Focus issues were cleared up with V2.0 but upon receiving this lens and updating to V3.0, the autofocus problems still were problematic with this lens from the very beginning. Wish I could return it but its too late. May have gotten a bad copy perhaps

I absolutely love this lens to complement my Samyang 85mm. The image quality, color and contrast is out of this world. The only thing that could be improved is the autofocuss noise which only matter for video but is acceptable for me. The lens look great and at 1.2 pound is perfect for me. I like some weight to my camera and lens which makes it feels solid in my hand.

I bought this lens to have a fast f/1.4 at 35mm without paying through the nose for a first-party lens. So far Ive shot a few candids at home, and an evening wedding using only ambient light (outdoor and indoor at the reception). Softness at f/1.4 is there, but manageable. Same with distortion. Upgraded to firmware v.03 with the lens station (purchased separately) but dont see any major difference in continuous autofocus speed. Still some missed focus points in crowd shots, but again manageable. Probably 80% keep rate, which is in line with expectations and speaks more to my unfamiliarity with my A7iii focus modes than the lens itself. Ill keep the lens - it does what I want and I can work through what few issues I have with it.
