Canon Extender RF 2x

My go to extender , use it on my 2.8 lens when light is good and gets me 800mm at f5.6

When I was on the EF system, I had a 1.4x extender that I rarely ever used because there seemed to be a real noticeable drop off in image quality. With this on the RF system however, I’ve had joy on both 70-200 and 400mm lenses. I’ve always stopped down slightly, and there is, of course, some drop in sharpness but haven’t noticed any unpleasant image aberrations, and the overall image quality is much better than cropping into the lens without an extender.

Good Points: Easy to use with existing camera and lense. Distinct improvement to distance. I use it for bird photography. It has made a real difference.

I liked the idea of being able to extend my lenses only this 2x extender would only work with one of my lenses so for that alone it’s an expensive piece of equipment. It’s heavy, heavier than the lens I bought to use it on. This inevitably increases shutter speed, and ISO and ultimately noise. I personally can’t use it as a walkabout lens on my camera as it’s too heavy and picture quality will be degraded. I could use a tripod but that’s not how I work when out and about. I’m sure it’s a good quality piece of kit but it’s just not for me
