Good Points: This drive is a big improvement on the sa500 model before it. Endurance rate is great & read of 3430 mb/s & write 2600 mb/s is a jump up on the sa500 that is rated at read 550 mb/s & write 530 mb/s. So between these two models read write speed difference is 2880 mb/s & 2070 mb/s these speeds are worthy of the upgrade of the same capacity drive I run a fleet of eleven drive three nvme drive 1 x sn700 2 x sn850 4 x WD20EFZX red & 4 x WD4003FFBX pro drives these two sets of four run in readynas systems for data storage main & second in raid5. But the above sn700 series drives are worth it very fast for a gen3 nvme you can barely tell the sped at all. Improvement Points: Just a shame it is not on gen4 pci-e interface yet.

The WD Red SN700 is an unexciting PCIe 3.0 NVMe drive, but its lackluster performance is backed by consistency and solid performance in sustained workloads, making it attractive for NAS and even general users. This drive should be of interest to anyone at 4TB, but is particularly well-suited for small business NAS usage.

With the arrival of the SN700 drive, WD's Red product line finally gets an NVMe SSD. There is an ever-increasing number of NAS enclosures entering the market using NVMe architecture support for dedicated M.2 SSD caching duties rather than using the SATA drives of previous generations of NAS units. Designed to support the 24/7 NAS workload environment and always-on applications, the SN700 offers a much higher level of performance and a far better endurance rating than WD's previous specialist M.2 cache drive, the SATA based Red SA500.
