While my first encounter with it on my skin, a blind date, still left me beaming with joy, on the second day I suddenly and completely unexpectedly felt a considerable aversion to this smell. The rejection even manifests physically as a slight feeling of discomfort. According to the fragrance pyramid, vetiver notes dominate. Many of the spades I have swung in my garden have cut through or injured grasses and plants. At no point does this linear product even remotely remind me of a natural, woody grass. It completely lacks finesse. Of course, Encre Noir does not aim to be a Guerlain vetiver. But honestly, how much finer, grassier, and more skillfully integrated the sweet grass at Guerlain comes across. Unfortunately, this visit will not turn into a shared home.

As I am a fan of the classic version of this fragrance (Lalique Encre Noir), which I believe is best suited for gray, rainy weather, I wanted to try the lighter, "sportier" variant for sunny summer days. Unfortunately, the scent did not develop for the better after a short time and began to strongly remind me of the smell of sour pickles. The positives definitely include the very good longevity and the quite noticeable sillage. However, the downside for my personal perception is this persistent association with pickles... What a shame...

A bit of an acquired taste.. But then it smells good. I find it quite sporty.. It reminds me a bit of D. Homme sport 2008. I find the longevity average to good.. Almost 10 hours when worn on clothes. It is lightly sporty but at the same time mysterious and woody. Sillage is rather unconvincing.

Smells just like one imagines a coniferous forest on a late spring day. It rained yesterday, today the sun is shining, and the warm air, filled with Encre Noire Sport, rises up. Sillage is okay for an EdT, 3-5 hours are definitely achievable. It becomes woodier over the course of the scent, but remains quite fresh the whole time. The liquid is darkly colored, heavy sprayers should perhaps be a bit careful with white shirts. The cap of the bottle sits very loosely on the spray head, it doesn’t click into place. When on the go, one has to be a bit careful, possibly tape it down.
