Creed Viking Eau De Parfum 50 ml (man)

Creed Viking is a scent that immediately makes me think, “Wow, I am a man.” What I find really strong is the blend of classic masculinity, freshness, and a slightly fruity note. At first, it comes across as spicy and slightly sharp, yet fresh and pleasantly fruity at the same time. This adds a certain casualness to it and makes it, for me, the perfect everyday business fragrance. As it develops, it remains clean and high-quality. Woody and spicy notes come through nicely, but never too heavy or overwhelming. It’s more of a scent that radiates confidence without being loud. Longevity is good for me, and the sillage is just right - you are noticed, but not negatively. It works perfectly for me in everyday life and in business. Conclusion: A really successful blend of fresh, fruity, and masculine. It has character, feels high-quality, and is super wearable. I simply like it.

I ran out of my favourite Eau de Cologne (the one with 900 in its name) a few months ago only to discover that it was no longer available. This started me on a long journey, in scent terms(!), trying different makes but never really finding one that I liked. Until now. Searches online led me to Creed so I bought a Creed 5-sample gift pack and quite liked three of the five. A promising start but as Creed offer quite a range I thought I'd try some others and hit upon Viking, which I love. It's not too strong yet you know it's there all day and, to me at least, my overall impression is that the fragrance is classy.

Viking opens with a complex citrus note, particularly highlighted by the orange. The zesty notes alongside create a very realistic orange/citrus scent. Immediately, there’s a full blast of clove underscored by a slight pepperiness. Allspice isn’t distinctly noticeable, but allspice is also known as clove pepper. After five minutes, the top note settles down and a very subtle rose joins in. The forefront presents a Christmas-spicy orange-clove vibe that reminds one of corresponding tea varieties right upon brewing. Then comes the twist. After about 15 - 30 minutes, the tonka bean makes a relatively loud appearance out of nowhere, steering straight towards an Armani Code direction, yet still accompanied by the orange-clove tea. The woods are quietly perceptible but do not push themselves to the forefront. A beautiful and high-quality scent and scent progression that feels so natural that the components appear as a picture before the inner eye.

What the scent has to do with Vikings, I don't know. When I think of Vikings, I think of something different than lemons, oranges, peppermint, and bergamot :D. What’s great about this scent is how it connects multiple worlds. It’s citrusy, but not a freshie. It’s bright and somewhat reminiscent of water, but it’s not an aquatic. And it has this old-school vibe without being outdated. A bit sweet, a bit bitter, more of a men’s fragrance. For the price, I would choose 50 other scents before this one, yet it is nice and has its right to exist, especially because of what I described above. There aren’t that many scents that have taken this path. And it’s not extremely complex or special, but it is unique, and the more you wear it, the more you appreciate it somehow. But it’s not a daily wear for me, so a decant is enough. You really don’t need 100 ml of this.
