Transcend ESD370C, 500 GB, USB Typ-C, 3.2 Gen 2 (3.1 Gen 2), 1050 MB/s, Schwarz, Blau

I bought four of these Transcend 32 GB JetFlash 790 UB 3.1 flash drives to create bootable Windows 10 drives to install or upgrade computers to Windows 10. I had been using some old USB 2.0 flash drives. I use a program called Rufus to transfer the Windows 10 ISO to the flash drives. The first transfer I did seemed to go really fast so I decided to time them. I timed the transfer to the 2.0 drives and then to these 3.1 drives. The 2.0 drive took about 7 minutes and 30 seconds to transfer. The 3.1 drive that I timed with a stopwatch took about 3 minutes and 25 seconds which seemed slower than the first 3.1 drive I used. Theoretically, USB 3.1 should be about 20 times faster than 2.0 (3.0 is about ten times faster), so the transfer to the 3.1 drive seemed a lot slower than it should have been. I'll be setting up more drives when Win 10 build 2004 comes out, so I'll time the transfers again and see if it differs much. Overall, though, I'm happy with these drives.

I'm working a project at work which had me buying over 30 thumb drives of all sizes over the past couple months. I have bought SanDisk, Samsung, a bunch of TEAMGROUP, and three Transcend sticks. I can honestly say the Transcend drives I got are questionable at best. I just tossed all 3 in the garbage! I could never get them to do anything reliably. Sometimes the computer would recognize them, and sometimes it wouldn't. Sometimes I could write to them, and sometimes the write would just slow up and never finish. I tried a bunch of different formats (ext4, HFS+, NTFS, fat32, etc.) and had issues withe these sticks no matter what. None of my other drives had any issues - just the Transcend ones. If I had to make a guess, I'd say they were cheap knock-offs, as that's how they behaved every time I used them. The bottom line; is I can't even trust them with temporary data as my work project required. Maybe I got 3 bad ones. I would say don't take chances though. Avoid these thumb drives!!!

When I first saw this I thought it would be a good value for the money but I made a huge mistake. I have gigs of files on mine and now it stopped working. It won't even let me "repair" the bad sectors in it. I have other flash drives that I've had for years and none of them have given me any problems. I simply would not trust my data to this device again. I know that every now and then even a good company can produce a lemon, but one's personal and/or work data is to precious to trust to a flash drive that could stop working so soon. For what it's worth, readers, take my advice and go with a different, more reliable brand. Now I'm looking at about 300 dollars just to retrieve my data. I will try other means first but the prospect of this is daunting. It's better to spend a little bit more money for a reliable, quality flash drive than to risk losing your precious data. In the end, you get what you pay for.

When I initially got this drive to test it I was skeptical about its quality. Not only is build quality great, but so is the drive. Its about average for USB 3 drives speed wise and it has a good Silicon Motion controller in it. Not the PHISON crap some other cheap manufactures use. Would recommend, especially for the price.

I have been using Transcend USB sticks as my portable storage medium of choice for quite a few years and have never had one fail on me.
