Panasonic Lumix DC-S5II + Lumix S 20-60mm F/3.5-5.6

Last year I came across a great offer on the Lumix S5 after been superceded with the S5II. I like full frame cameras a lot for their IQ and I grabbed the opportunity. Baffling and somewhat hard to learn but ergonomic and full of options once you climb the steep learning curve. Also heavy, compared to my other digitals, Leica M-10-R and FujiX-T4, specially when fitted with a Sigma 24-70/2.8 OIS lens that brings the total to 1.65 Kg. However, it's a great performer and you soon get accustomed ...

The Panasonic LUMIX S5 is fantastic for studio video. Videos are sharply rendered and low in noise, and the camera has a very wide dynamic range to preserve more detail in trickier lighting conditions. It records 4k video at up to 60 fps in a fairly wide range of recording formats and codecs, although shooting at 60 fps in 4k is only available with an APS-C crop. Still, it can capture 10-bit 4:2:2 video internally, with 12-bit RAW video output via HDMI. It also features a wide variety of inputs and outputs for various videography accessories, like external recorders, headphones, or microphones, though it doesn't have a full-sized HDMI port. If you prefer using autofocus, it also uses a slower contrast-based AF system that doesn't have the most reliable tracking feature.

Purchasing Lumix S5 from secondhand platform, S5 is the one which perfectly fit my estimation and budget. Though its focus ability is poorer than other brands, the camera absolutely fit the requirement of low expense filming. Loading wireless focus gear on Lumix f1.8 series prime lens is a good solution. After all, S5 provides micro HDMI connector, which should be carefully protected for the reason that monitor wire might be easily disconnected. Plus the auto white balance maybe inaccurate ...

I've my beloved S5 for almost 2 years now. It a great camera to grow with in filming. It can do a lot, has great video capacities and when you get better, it always as new tricks on it sleave what you can use. The Good: - Incredible camera for the price - great button layout - Easy to learn, harder to master. Its a pro camera but you can start with everything on auto, and than step for step do more by hand. - You can easily adapt old and cheap (but high quality) vintage lenses to this camera. ...

This is not a technical review, but my impressions after using the camera for the first time. All pictures are edited lightly in DXO Photolab 5. After a rainy morning and noon, the sun came out. Some background: in the past I have used Olympus cameras (which I really like) and a Nikon DSLR. I've been wanting to try a full-frame camera for years, so here we are. Although I value small and lightweight cameras a lot, the bulkiness and weight of the S5 is still acceptable for me, especially on ...
