The S1000 is built like a tank. Sonically at par with Marantz. More on the top end. Tight punchy bass with good base extension. Older DAC chip Cirrus Logic. Display is too small. No XLR balance. 2 yr warranty compared to Denon's 3yr warranty. Yamaha could have used the Sabre chip like the S2000 and S3000 and newer Oppos. Reviews should model-specific Amazon should recategorize the reviews since not all yamaha cd players are capable of sacd.

This CD player is really heavy. The building quality is superior to me. I expect this product to last a century without. This CD player is connected with a Chord Mojo (Dac) and Schiit Asgard 2, paired with HD600. They sound GREAT.

Plays CDs and SACDs very well. Very solidly built, weighs 45 lbs. very smooth operating.

The Yamaha CD-S1000 Super Audio CD Player is a fantastic unit. Sound is very clear but not analytical. I can hear much more MUSIC using this Yamaha. It took 3 weeks to break in. The sound has been changing every day until it finalized. The display is very minimalistic but I listen in PURE DIRECT mode so it's OK for me. SA CDs have much more air if I compare with regular CD sound. Having hybrid CD it's very easy to compare 2 layers. However the player should be in STOP mode to change the layer. It also makes sense to replace AC cable - the unit comes with generic cable. ABT gave me a very good price. Strongly recommended but be ready to pay $$$ .
