Fellowes Powershred 450M - Kreuzschreddern - 22 cm - 2 x 12 mm - 22 l - Tasten - 4 Rad/Rä

We have used this for a while as a shedder for our small office and it does the job very well though we do not have large volumes of shredding to do.

Bought the 450M shredder just before Christmas to get rid of papers and documents accumulated over the last 30 years. Started using it in February and it has worked well, the 15 minute only continuous use was annoying but have got used to this now and even some industrial shedders at £1000+ a pop can't be used continuously. Things to be aware of; It is very top heavy so you have to be careful when moving it not to tip it over. Use oil regularly, I bought the Fellows stuff, to lubricate the cutting blades it does make a BIG difference, it prevents paper jams and reduces the strain on the motor.

I took some time choosing this model as I wanted something quiet and reliable with a slide out bin and wheels. This does the job well. Certainly a lot quieter than our last shredder. We don’t produce a lot of waste paper so not bothered that it’s not terribly fast. Decided to buy the oil to keep the cutters lubricated and hopefully avoid any breakdowns.

This model replace our Fellowes MS-450C that had been great for years but a gear inside sheared last week. This Fellowes 450M is the closest replacement model I could find but its not so robustly made. You can tell the plastic is cheaper. The biggest complaint though is that you can only shred for 2 or 3 minutes before the red over-temperature light comes on and you have to wait for it to cool down. We are only shredding 2 or 3 sheets as well, not the 9 sheets is is specified to take in one go. Our old shredder could go for 10 mins or more without overheating.

The shredder is less than a week old, so early days. It replaces a 25-year-old Fellowes which did sterling work, albeit at ear-splitting levels. Let's hope this model lasts as long! In comparison, its soothing hum and large capacity is a great improvement. The bin material is thin plastic, and the removable part had warped somewhat in storage so doesn’t quite fit under the really heavy machine - some jamming required... I bought it for the wheels, which are a great let-down. They are plasticky and are often caught on my carpet squares, which prove no problem to the wheels of filing cabinets, under-desk cabinets and office chairs. The shredder may outlast my original but I doubt the flimsy plastic will.
