Actually it's a little soon for us to accurately assess it - we've only had it a little over a week. When it actually shreds, it does seem to be louder than what we had in the past. We do appreciate that it is a strip-cut shredder. Our prior shredder was a micro-cut shredder and always created a mess with the little bits of paper. This one keeps our work-space much cleaner.

Our old Fellows Powershred had been giving us trouble for a while & finally gave up the ghost after 17 1/2 years of faithful service. I do not think we can find one that will last as long as the old one, but here goes. We have had the new shredder for a few weeks now. It serves a large office with multiple users, only we do not have a great deal to shred. It does what it is supposed to easily with no problems, so there is that. It is not as quite as advertised or better said about the same loudness as the old unit. If not a little louder. Greater safety features than the old one. I don't know how much of an advantage this is. It is just one more component that can fail and seriously how much can you idiot proof the world. Overall, we are pleased with the unit so far with the understanding that we do not expect the unit to last as long as our last Fellows. I would give it 4 1/2 stars NOT 5, only they don't have a 1/2 star.

Very quiet unit, take a full load of paper, don't jam easily. Note: it comes with an 12oz oil bottle on the box... I ordered one with my order... I'm gonna have oul for a very long time !!!

The red warning light and the fact it won't start shredding when too many papers are put in is awesome. Too many times our old shredder would get jammed and whoever did it just left it that way. Very frustrating. I can't say anything about durability or recommend yet since it is brand new.
